Switching to Microfiber Cloths

Microfiber cloths can easily replace paper towels for most cleaning projects. Not only is it more economical, but it also is more eco-friendly since they are washable and reusable. Their efficiency and durability can typically last for 500 washes, making a fantastic replacement for your typical paper towels. Below discusses reasons for cost efficiency and eco-friendliness, as well as how to wash and care for microfiber

cloths to get the most out of their use!

Cost Efficiency

You can purchase a pack of 50 microfiber cloths on Amazon between $15-$20, which is the same price or less compared to buying a large 12 pack of paper towels. Paper towels can range from the lower end of $15 upwards to $30. Depending on how often you use paper towels, this can quickly add up. With a set of microfiber cloths, you can wash and reuse them and greatly reduce your need to replace paper towels.

Eco-friendly

Microfiber cloths reduce the cycle of single use products. They do not require pesticide or synthetic fertilizers in their production nor do they contribute to deforestation issues in their creation, much like paper towels do. They are typically made from polyester and nylon, which is synthetic fibers. There is some controversy in regards to micro-plastics entering the environment through their use and manufacturing, but you can consider going the organic bamboo or cotton route. However, these options too can contribute to the deforestation issues and have their own issues of sustainability with use. Reducing the single use products is a great first step towards leading a more eco-friendly lifestyle. Additional Benefits

Utilizing microfiber cloths for your daily, weekly, or monthly cleaning projects can make time spent cleaning quicker and more efficient than using paper towels. They are very durable and hold cleaning solution much longer than paper towels, which will also reduce your need to use more cleaning solutions. You can use any type of cleaning solution with microfiber cloths. You do not need to use a lot of cleaner when using these cloths and it will leave your surfaces and even glass streak free.

Microfiber cloths can even replace makeup removal and cleaning wipes/solutions, just wet it with water and wipe!

Washing and Care

Taking proper care of your microfiber cloths will extend their product life and efficiency.

Before washing, make sure you knock off any debris like crumbs or thick dust into a garbage can. Gather plenty of cloths to do a single wash (cloths only) so there is enough to agitate in the washer properly. It is important to use a mild, fragrance-free detergent.

1. Set washer to medium or warm heat.

2. Treat any stains by dabbing a small amount of detergent on stain.

3. Add a small amount (about 1-2 teaspoons depending on size of load) of fragrance free detergent. Using too much soap will reduce their effectiveness because the soap will clog up between the fibers. Do not use fabric softener for the same reason.

4. Wash load of laundry as normal.

5. Dry cloths in dryer on low heat or delicate cycle. It does not take long for them to dry. You can also opt to air dry. Do not add dryer sheets since they need the static to help cling to dust particles.

If you have lightly soiled cloths, you can hand-wash without detergent.

Since they are so good at picking up dust particles, store in a closed area where they cannot collect dust and debris. Be mindful that they are susceptible to melting in high heat conditions, even in too much sun.

If the cloths begin to smell, add 1 teaspoon of white distilled vinegar to the wash cycle to help deodorize the cloths.
